Some of you might have read about the Sherri Fur Catastrophe back in 2009 when Sherri Shepherd walked onto the sets of The View in her full length Mink Coat. But all that has changed. We love it when we can make people have a change of heart so they choose compassionate options that also don’t sacrifice their style.
Check out Sherri enjoying her new all Black London Tote by GUNAS.
We strongly believe that healthy food and fashion go hand in hand. Our love for animals is at the center of everything we do here at GUNAS. So in order to support our mission we recently donated our popular London Tote for a silent auction at the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary Thanksgiving Fundraiser night held on October 15, 2011. We also contributed towards the NY Coalition for Healthy School Food at their “Healthy Food in Fashion Fall Gala Night” held in Manhattan on October 12, 2011.
One would question what the connection is between Healthy food and Fashion? We say the connection is HUGE! If we can teach our youth what they put “in” their bodies, eventually they will care about what they put “on” their bodies. One common element from both the industries are animals. Animals are used in food as well as Fashion. (Think fur/leather). Animal rearing for this purpose leads to high carbon emissions into our atmosphere and is contributing highly to the global shift in temperatures. Both industries claim to be a by-product of the other. But if we as consumers can refuse to consume packaged/canned foods or wear clothing that is churned out by the 1000′s from factories overseas, we will force companies to produce alternatives that are healthier and safer. A hike in demand for such eco-conscious products will in turn reduce production costs. That’s when we can truly say that we have succeeded in turning the eco-conscious “concept” into a “lifestyle”.
In conclusion, turning everyone vegetarian is not our goal. Our goal is to spread awareness and make one more conscious about their consumption habits. Eating local, fresh, seasonal produce is far better than processed foods. What better to way to start than teaching the importance of this to our youth!
